Hellebore begins to bloom in February, when there may still be snow outside, and continues until June. Petals from cream to pink, from white to purple and even inky blue, with an exquisite rich shade, look amazing and fabulous in the snow.
People, fascinated by flowering in the middle of winter and its similarity to wild roses, have given the plant the names "winter rose", "Christmas rose", "snow rose". Despite the popular names, hellebore is not related to either the rose family (Rosaceae) or the rose family (Malvaceae).
